Vice president of EV infrastructure, ABB Inc.
Chosen because: ABB and partner ECOtality Inc. are combining to set up 15,000 charging stations around the United States for the Chevrolet Volt, Nissan Leaf and other battery electric vehicles that will follow. The charging stations, to be installed this year, will carry ECOtality's Blink brand. ABB, a Swiss industrial conglomerate, will provide the hardware and the link to the electric utilities that buy ABB equipment and services. The Blink charger provides a full charge in less than 30 minutes. The project is funded by a $114.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Jones,
64, a former automotive engineer with GE Automotive, likens the Blink project to the kind of investment the government made in the Interstate highway system in the 1950s.
Quote: "Consumers seem to love their electric vehicles. What we want to do is be sure we get ahead of their interest in electric vehicles so there will be range-ready infrastructure wherever they want to go."
