BMW has selected AeroVironment as the preferred provider of charging equipment, accessories and installation services for the launch of the BMW ActiveE electric vehicle this fall.
The BMW ActiveE, based on the 1 series, will be distributed in the Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento areas.
Based on the chassis of a BMW 1 Series Coupe, the ActiveE electric car features an electric drivetrain and is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. AeroVironment will install 240-volt chargers in drivers' home garages.
AeroVironment announced the deal today. In January 2010, Nissan North America Inc. selected AeroVironment to supply and install home charging stations for the Leaf sedan.
