MIAMI – (May 9, 2011) – LeaseTrader.com, the nation's most popular online marketplace for car leasing, announces it will provide a series of reports on the picture of car leasing then and now, comparing trends in car leasing today compared with 2000. The first report, "More Baby Boomers Lease Cars Today," provides insight into one of the fastest-growing demographics of car leasing, baby boomers.

According to LeaseTrader.com experts, baby boomers represented just 15 percent of its car-leasing marketplace back in 2000, compared with 48 percent of total users today. The boomer psychology of car shopping has changed over the last ten years, and today more boomers are comfortable with having a different car every few years, especially when leasing comes with a low, monthly payment. Women boomers have slightly outpaced men, making up 52 percent of boomer growth during that time span.

"Even though boomers have grown up with leasing, it wasn't popular with their parents," said Michelle Krebs, senior automotive analyst for automotive advice website Edmunds.com. "But boomers have gotten used to the thought of always paying for something, as opposed to financing a car and driving for several years with no payment."

Other insight offered in the report:

--Affected by the recession and job losses, baby boomers make up a large percentage of today's entrepreneurs and small business owners, who lease a car for tax purposes.

--Boomers have broken free of the car-shopping mindset instilled by their parents and grand parents, who used to buy a car and drive it for 10 or more years.

--Ten years ago 95 percent of boomers leasing a car opted for luxury cars on the website; Today many are found to be leasing other categories such as compact (13%) and even hybrid vehicles (11%).

--With high spending power, boomers are exercising their option of lease transfer earlier than other age groups.

According to Sergio Stiberman, CEO and founder of LeaseTrader.com: "More than any other age group or demographic, boomers have been the biggest growth segment for LeaseTrader.com over the last ten years because they've fallen in love with having more car for their money and experiencing a different car every few years.
