Kia and Hyundai sales jumped in March, helping both brands to monthly U.S. sales records and banner quarterly sales results.
Kia sales totaled 44,179 units last month, up 45 percent from March 2010 and a monthly U.S. sales record. Through March, Kia sold 104,774 vehicles, up 37 percent from the first quarter of 2010. That's a quarterly record, surpassing the brand's previous high of 97,955 vehicles sold in the third quarter last year, Kia said.
Byung Mo Ahn, CEO of Kia Motors America, said in a statement that Kia's results show that its vehicles are resonating with consumers. Kia's first quarter sales mark the first time the brand has sold more than 100,000 units in the United States in a quarter.
