Fledgling low-price automaker Next Autoworks has hired industry veteran James Donlon as its chief financial officer.
Donlon most recently was CFO of supplier ArvinMeritor. Before that, he was CFO for retailer Kmart Corp., and from 1998 to 2003 he was senior vice president and controller for the Chrysler Group.
Donlon joined Ford Motor Co. in 1969, then moved to Chrysler, where he worked for the next 24 years.
Donlon is the second hiring coup by Next, which snared industry veteran Kathy Ligocki as its CEO last fall. Next, formerly known as V-Vehicle Inc., is in its second attempt to gain $320 million in Department of Energy loans.
Once it secures the funding, Next will move ahead with its plan to build a low-cost, fuel-efficient car from its plant at the former GM Guide manufacturing plant in Monroe, La.
