DETROIT -- Recalled Windstar minivans are stacking up on some Ford dealerships' lots as dealers await parts to repair the vehicles.
Ford Motor Co. says axles to replace broken ones on 1998-2003 Windstars will not arrive until early next year.
Some other parts related to the axle problem will arrive sooner, Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said.
About 575,000 Windstars could have cracked or damaged axles. Most require small repairs that can be completed this year, Sherwood said.
But if axles are cracked, the minivans are unsafe to drive, forcing dealers to store the vehicles. Ford is reimbursing dealers for the expense of renting vehicles for Windstar owners.
