The tough U.S. economy has forced dealers to cut costs and find new sources of revenue.
AutoNation Inc. has been one of the most innovative groups. The nation's largest publicly traded retailer has sold service contracts in service lanes, combined finance and insurance jobs with sales jobs, kept service departments open seven days a weeks and sold high-mileage used cars in Value Vehicle Centers.
CEO Mike Jackson will be a keynote speaker at the 2011 Automotive News World Congress.
Jackson, 61, has been a director and CEO of AutoNation since September 1999.
He started his auto career as a dealership mechanic and worked his way up to become managing partner of Euro Motor Cars in Bethesda, Md.
Jackson then joined Mercedes-Benz USA, where he became CEO before being recruited for the top job at AutoNation.
The Automotive News World Congress will be Jan. 11-13, during media week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
