SHENZHEN, China -- Remy Electric Motors, a unit of Remy Inc., has been named the electric-motor supplier to electric-vehicle maker ZAP.
At this year's World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition in Shenzhen, the companies said they had signed a long-term motor supply and development agreement. Remy HVH 250 electric motors will be used globally in ZAP's vehicles. ZAP also is developing a drivetrain with the Remy motor for use in the automotive platforms of ZAP and those of several Chinese vehicles.
ZAP, of Santa Rosa, Calif., acquired 51 percent of Chinese auto manufacturer Zhejiang Jonway Automobile Co. this year.
Remy Inc., of Pendleton, Ind., makes starter motors, alternators and hybrid drive systems. It ranks No. 120 on the Automotive News list of the top 150 North American suppliers, with parts sales to automakers totaling $207 million in 2009.
