Regarding Edward Lapham's Oct. 25 column, "The Fiat franchise: Let me play devil's advocate": For those of us who remember the problems when Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Renault were last in the United States, it's going to be an awfully hard sell.
I loved my Fiat X1/9 when it ran, but that was too seldom to mask all the mechanical and dealer problems. Fiat had better hope there are enough younger angels out there now who weren't around then.
