LOS ANGELES -- Hyundai Motor America plans to build its redesigned Elantra sedan in Alabama this fall ahead of an early 2011 sales launch.
Currently, Hyundai imports all Elantras from South Korea.
Hyundai still will import the high-line Elantra Touring model from South Korea, and it may import other trim levels of the Elantra sedan for U.S. sale, depending on demand, Hyundai spokesman Chris Hosford said. Hosford said it was too early to say how many Elantras would be built in the United States.
The redesigned 2011 Elantra will make its public debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
