“We’re going to be pitching to suppliers that they should come and locate here in Michigan,” UAW President Bob King told Reuters yesterday.
I hope not.
King and other UAW officials will travel to Italy next week to meet with Fiat/Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne. King also wants to take the opportunity to meet with Fiat suppliers and urge them to come to the United States.
U.S., I can see. Michigan, no.
If King is suggesting foreign suppliers set up unionized factories in the United States, he’s serving his membership. But if he’s even slightly favoring Michigan as the site for those factories over Ohio, Tennessee, Puerto Rico or any other state, he’s out of line.
