To the Editor:
Regarding "Catching up on their Z's" (Aug. 30):
It was very nice of you to catch Yoshihiko Matsuo (creator of the first Nissan Z sports car) and have him meet with Randy Rodriguez (creator of the most recent Nissan Z sports car) during Matsuo's recent trip to the United States. I would have been happy to be there also but am happy still to see your fine article.
By the late 1960s, the Datsun challenge in the United States was really catching up and trailing Volkswagen after the introduction of the Datsun 510. The addition of the 240Z in the 1970s was a decisive move to make Datsun the No. 1 import in the United States some years later.
Your article has brought back memories of the exciting time I spent in the United States more than 40 years ago. Thank you.
