To the Editor:
I agree with James B. Treece 100 percent on the need for a carbon tax.
My proposal is a variable tax to keep gasoline at a constant $10 a gallon.
That will make electricity and E85 ethanol fuel so much cheaper than gasoline that people will change their behavior and buy E85 cars and electric vehicles. It should be done over several years.
I remember the first oil crunch in the 1970s when OPEC cut off oil to us and the price of gasoline doubled overnight. But we lived with it.
So Americans will have to live with $10 gasoline eventually and change their habits.
That will finally cut oil use and cut off the oil money flowing to countries that support terrorists out to destroy America.
