Canada's new-vehicle sales rose 12 percent last month compared with June 2009 to 154,635 for the seventh straight monthly year-over-year gain. For the first half, sales rose 9 percent to 786,953 cars and trucks.
Chrysler Group's sales doubled, rebounding from levels depressed by a 2009 bankruptcy. Sales also rose by double-digit percentages at Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group. But Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. had double-digit sales drops.
Chrysler Group sales jumped 101 percent to 18,502. Sales more than doubled at Chrysler and Dodge and jumped 81 percent at Ram and 55 percent at Jeep.
Ford's sales rose 15 percent to 32,406 to lead all automakers in June.
GM's sales rose 16 percent to 25,646 despite steep drops at Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and Saab. Chevrolet sales rose 36 percent to 15,690, and GMC sales more than doubled to 7,494.
Toyota fell 14 percent to 16,036. Honda dropped 14 percent to 11,889.
