Some Mazda dealers have been stymied in accessing online information about their lease customers who financed vehicles through Ford Motor Co.'s finance arm. The problem raises questions about who has access to customer information at brands after corporate ties are severed, such as Mazda at Ford and Saab at General Motors Co.
The dealers say they have complained to Ford Motor Credit Co. and Mazda North American Operations about problem passwords that also have denied some of them access to the finance company's online remarketing channel. The channel, called Accelerate, offers off-lease vehicles to Mazda dealers before they are offered in auctions that are open to all dealers.
Ford Credit and Mazda say they are trying to help by providing dealers with tutorials and telephones numbers to call for assistance.
But for now, some Mazda dealers say being denied access to this information makes it difficult for them to market to customers with soon-to-expire leases and more expensive to buy late-model, off-lease vehicles.
