DETROIT -- Cindy Estrada today became the first Hispanic vice president of the UAW.
Estrada, 41, was nominated for one of four vice president positions elected this morning at the UAW's national constitutional convention. She ran unopposed.
The other three officers elected were General Holiefield, Jimmy Settles Jr., and Joe Ashton. Dennis Williams was elected secretary-treasurer to replace the retiring Elizabeth Bunn. He had been director of UAW Region 4.
Estrada, a native of the predominantly Hispanic southwest section of Detroit, has served most recently as director of the union's organizing department.
She did a stint with the farm workers union after graduating from the University of Michigan.
