Every supplier who sells, or wants to sell, to Chrysler must be upset about the software battle brewing at the automaker.
As reported by Dave Barkholz, Fiat is pushing Chrysler to switch from CATIA computer-aided design software to a product that Fiat uses from Siemens PLM.
Suppliers may have to switch software, too, but that's not the big issue.
The question is whether this signals a trend. Will Fiat's Marchionne want Chrysler to switch in other areas, say from a long-standing brake supplier to one that Fiat uses? Chrysler's existing suppliers have been sweating over that possibility for months. With the software news, they're now more nervous than ever.
