LOS ANGELES -- Mazda has put the head of its Canadian unit, Don Romano, in charge of North American marketing, where he will oversee an advertising review.
The move follows Mazda North American Operations' decision earlier this month to search for a new agency after working with Doner since 1997. Doner has said it will defend the account.
Mazda wants to “to be sure we're getting the best work and the best price," a spokesman said then.
Romano has been president of Mazda Canada since 2006 and will retain that title while taking on the chief marketing officer role. He previously was vice president of marketing for Mazda North American Operations, general manager of business operations, and general manager of the Western region. Romano came to Mazda from Nissan North America.
In his new position, Romano will report to CEO Jim O'Sullivan and COO Keishi Egawa.
