DETROIT -- Wind-down dealers waiting to see whether General Motors Co. will make good on its pledge to try to settle outside of arbitration have had to wait longer than expected for details.
Mark Reuss, GM's president for North America, said at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in February that GM planned to start contacting dealers last week about possible settlements.
But GM won't start contacting dealers until at least this week, says GM spokeswoman Ryndee Carney. The delay is because the law allowed the deadline for dealers to apply for arbitration to be extended to Wednesday, Feb. 24.
Dealers haven't gotten settlement offers from GM but have received requests for the documents they plan to present during arbitration. The requests include sales reports, business plans, mortgages, financial reports, demographic information, ad budgets and forecasts, dealers say.
Reuss has said that good dealer relations are among his top priorities.
