Ford Motor Co. has hired MarketSource to provide free finance and insurance training to dealerships, the automaker told dealers at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention. The goal is for dealers to sell more extended service plans and other F&I products.
"This is a real departure for Ford to hire an outside firm to get it done," said Jim Seavitt, president of Village Ford in Dearborn, Mich. "I'm very happy they're doing it."
Seavitt said dealership personnel will be trained to use software with a menu of aftermarket products.
Said Morrie Wagener, owner of Morrie's Automotive Group in Long Lake, Minn.: "They realize new-car sale grosses are so tough these days, we've got to use F&I for revenue." Wagener owns two Ford stores.
