NEW YORK -- The salvage auto auction company Insurance Auto Auctions Inc. agreed to discontinue advertising claims after those claims were challenged by Copart Inc., a competing salvage auction house.
The case was brought before the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. The division is the advertising industry's self-regulatory forum.
Copart challenged such claims as "highest selling prices and returns" and "produces the salvage industry's leading returns." The division determined that Insurance Auto Auctions' discontinuing the claims "was proper and necessary." Insurance Auto Auctions said it based its decision to discontinue the claims, in part, on Copart's agreement to discontinue certain advertising claims as well.
