DETROIT — Industrywide sales of certified used vehicles plunged 18 percent last month compared with November 2008, to 98,629 units. That represents the largest monthly decline this year, according to data compiled by the Automotive News Data Center and Autodata Corp.
Helping drag down certified sales was General Motors Co. Its brands dropped a collective 42 percent from November 2008 to 19,553 cars and trucks. Also down was Ford Motor Co., with sales off 30 percent to 9,436; and Chrysler Group, down 30 percent to 5,864 units.
One bright spot was BMW Group, up 8 percent to 8,426 in November.
Through November, industrywide sales of certified used vehicles totaled 1,407,776 units, down 9 percent from the year-ago period.
