OK, I gather this much from Fritz Henderson's ouster: GM directors are looking for someone to work magic at GM just like Alan Mulally has done at Ford. The industry newcomers deciding GM's fate should also know that Ford has a great tradition of dumping leaders.
In 1960, Henry Ford II broomed his own mentor, Ernest Breech. Three decades later, Don Petersen announced an urge to "repot" himself -- without saying the board showed him the door. In between, Hank the Deuce canned Lee Iacocca and said, simply: "Well, sometimes, you just don't like somebody."
Any parallels to Henderson's dismissal? Check out Chairman Whitacre's remarks in this special Automotive News TV newscast and decide for yourself.
