Automakers can get instant consumer feedback, good and bad, using social media. In August, General Motors Co. killed plans for a Buick crossover based on the Saturn Vue after Twitter users panned the vehicle.
Here are some of the reactions GM got on Facebook recently, moments after posting pictures of the new Buick Regal:
-- "Nice, but needs portholes."
-- "Beautiful -- this will probably be my next car and I'm just under 30."
-- "Kind of looks like a re-vamped Malibu or Aura Only Better!"
-- "Bill Mitchell's definitely rolling over. It's sad that GM has decided that it can't be the style leader anymore, but has to be a follower instead."
-- "Derivative, bland, unimaginative, anonymous ... Should I continue? The point is not to copy the Germans, but to outdo them and outclass them."
And one user posted this on Twitter:
-- "If you asked me to choose between another Buick Regal and a Ford Pinto that was currently on fire, I'd have to reeeeally think about it."
