Yoshi Inaba, COO of Toyota Motor North America, will be a keynote speaker at the 2010 Automotive News World Congress. Inaba will speak Tuesday evening, Jan. 12, in Detroit.
As the Toyota Motor Corp. board member in charge of manufacturing and sales operations in North America, Inaba, 63, is responsible for getting the automaker back on track in the United States. He faces sagging sales of Toyota trucks, sliding market share, and a 3.8 million-unit recall of Toyota and Lexus vehicles to fix unintended acceleration problems.
He also will help Toyota revamp its product lineup for North America to include more hybrids and fewer large vehicles.
Inaba, who joined Toyota in 1968, served two tours of duty in the United States before leaving Toyota in 2007 to be CEO of the international airport in Nagoya, Japan. He was invited to return in June 2009 by Toyota's new CEO, Akio Toyoda, as part of his back-to-basics strategy.
The Automotive News World Congress will be Jan. 12-14 in Detroit during media week at the North American International Auto Show. The theme of the congress is "Navigating the New Automotive Epoch.'' c
