DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. is giving its hourly workers another month to decide on buyout packages.
Ford and the UAW decided earlier today to extend the sign-up deadline to June 26. The previous deadline was today, May 22. A Ford official declined to reveal how many employees had signed up thus far.
"With everything going on and with some impending deadlines ahead, people may be a little cautious in making a decision," Ford spokeswoman Angie Kozleski said. "We want to give them enough time to look at their own circumstances and make an educated decision. It's the prudent thing to do."
The available packages do not change. They include:
A lump-sum payment of up to $40,000 and a $25,000 vehicle voucher for retirement-eligible employees.
A lump-sum payment of $50,000 and a $25,000 vehicle voucher for other employees.
Or a $15,000 annual tuition payment, health care continuation and 50 percent of base wages for two years.
