DealerTrack Holdings has acquired an inventory management system that, when combined with DealerTrack's other products, will tell a dealer "what [vehicle] you need, where to put it and how to price it," said Mark O'Neil, CEO of DealerTrack.
The AAX system, acquired from JM Dealer Services Inc., provides an inventory base twice the size of DealerTrack's current system, O'Neil said.
AAX, which can be used for new- and used-car inventory, already is being used by AutoNation, Sonic and Group 1, he said. Another advantage: A dealer can call AAX anytime and find out the value of a used vehicle based on the nationwide availability, O'Neil said.
With AAX, "we have the view of the whole forest," he said.
Dealerships can buy all or part of DealerTrack's three-tier inventory management system, which includes AAX, InventoryPro and PriceDriver. PriceDriver shows the Internet inventory nationwide. InventoryPro also gives historical prices and allows the search of other auctions and on-site appraisals.
