MEXICO CITY -- Mexicos dealers sold 83,306 new vehicles in October, down 14.3 percent from October 2007 -- making it the worst month for domestic sales in a decade.
The national dealers association, known as AMDA, said the last time sales fell more was in October 1998, when the decline was 14.9 percent year over year.
AMDA also said this years October sales were off 11 percent from September.
Through the first 10 months, sales of all vehicles, from subcompacts to heavy-duty trucks, totaled 845,670, down 3.4 percent from the same period in 2007, AMDA said.
Sales of subcompacts, the biggest segment, were down 4.8 percent. Sales fell 8.5 percent for compacts and 12.7 percent for sports cars.
