Wholesale shipments of towable RVs and motor homes fell 25.6 percent in May from a year earlier to 25,000 units, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.
Travel trailers, the largest segment of the RV market, fell 22.9 percent to 13,500 units. The segment helped pull shipments of all towable RVs down 21.5 percent in May to 22,300.
Shipments of motor homes plummeted 48.1 percent from May 2007 to 2,700 units. Shipments of Type A motor homes plunged 58.6 percent to 1,200.
Through May, total shipments to RV retailers declined 13.9 percent from the year-earlier period to 139,000. Motor home shipments alone are off 28.3 percent to 17,700.
The totals do not include conversion vehicles. Last October, the RV association stopped including those in its monthly shipment totals. Manufacturers of conversion vehicles have cut ties with the association.
