June sales of cars and light trucks in Canada fell 5.6 percent from June 2007 to 159,717 units.
Through the first half of 2008, sales rose 2.5 percent to 884,021 vehicles.
In June, General Motors' sales plunged 23.9 percent from June 2007 to 32,068 vehicles. GM's year-to-date total of 189,826 is off 11.1 percent from last year.
Total industry light-truck sales dropped 17.6 percent in June to 64,184 units.
GM's June light-truck sales plummeted 36.5 percent from June 2007 to 13,435.
Ford Motor Co. sold 15,385 light trucks in June, down 18.9 percent. Its total sales fell 14.8 percent to 22,832.
Toyota Motor Corp.'s June sales of Toyota and Lexus vehicles rose 8.8 percent to 22,428 vehicles.
Combined Honda and Acura sales dipped 2.3 percent to 16,518 vehicles.
Chrysler LLC's sales edged up 0.7 percent to 22,194 vehicles.
