After returning from a vacation drive to her ancestral home back east, one of my colleagues said she had noticed a lot fewer license plates from faraway places than she had in other years.
Not surprising, I guess, given all the predictions that skyrocketing gasoline prices would convince Americans to vacation closer to home this year.
But her other observation grabbed me: She saw a lot more domestic-make automobiles than she remembers seeing out east in recent years. No, she didn't have an explanation. And neither do I. Do you?
