DETROIT — American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. and the UAW continued negotiations last week to end a three-week strike. Company spokeswoman Renee Rogers said it was uncertain whether the sides would meet over the weekend.
Not at the talks Friday was CEO Richard E. Dauch. Reached at his Florida residence on Marco Island, Dauch hung up on a reporter requesting comment.
The talks are stalemated over company demands for a wage cut of 50 percent. The union is holding out for an American Axle guarantee of future jobs. About 3,600 UAW workers at five plants walked out of American Axle on Feb. 26, at the expiration of a four-year contract.
Parts shortages have idled seven GM assembly plants and hampered production at 22 other plants.
