DETROIT -- Joe Hinrichs, the manufacturing whiz who has helped Ford Motor Co. post some of the industrys highest quality scores, has been promoted to group vice president of global manufacturing. He was vice president of North America manufacturing.
Hinrichs, 40, will lead the integration of Fords worldwide manufacturing operations and its engineering support for vehicle, powertrain and stamping, Ford said in a statement. Hinrichs also will continue to manage North American manufacturing operations.
Joe has been successful in leading the restructuring of our North American operations and was a key participant in the recent contract talks with the UAW, said Ford CEO Alan Mulally in the statement. In his new role, Joe will focus on delivering a global manufacturing plan that allows us to improve our efficiency while leveraging our scale worldwide.
Despite the turmoil of plant closings and worker layoffs, Ford this year placed five vehicles atop the influential J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey, which measures design flaws and manufacturing glitches.
