LOS ANGELES -- Scion is teaming with Daptone Records on a rhythm and blues compilation aimed at raising awareness of the Toyota youth brand.
Scion is paying production, distribution and licensing costs for the set of two CDs. Profits will go to the musicians.
The compilation features nine original songs by Daptone artists such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and The Budos Band.
The CDs also include remixes of the songs by prominent disc jockeys such as Kenny Dope and Mad Professor.
Consumers can buy individual remixes at digital retailers such as iTunes and Rhapsody. Scion will distribute the CDs at brand events but will not sell them.
To attract young consumers to the brand, Scion operates its own record label, clothing line and online entertainment network.
