Volvo Cars of North America said today it will offer factory-installed HD Radio receivers on nearly every 2009 model beginning in the fall of 2008.
HD Radio is an AM/FM radio system with higher quality sound, more channels and new data services, such as displaying artist and song titles, traffic reports and weather updates on the radio receiver.
We believe Volvo will have the largest standard-equipped HD Radio technology fleet in the world, Dick Bott, Volvos North American brand, business and product vice president, said in a statement.
Adding HD Radio capability to our S40 T5, V50 T5, C30, C70, S80, V70, XC70 and XC90 models truly makes our audio systems state of the art.
The service will not be available on the base model S40 and V50.
Unlike satellite radio, there are no fees or costs to use the HD signal. Any HD receiver will be able to use all HD Radio functions available in its area.
