Chip Foose, Ford design consultant and host of TLC network's Overhaulin' series, helped rouse the automotive retro design movement in America.
His Foose Design in Southern California turns out the sort of restored playthings that gearheads crave.
One of his college projects inspired the Plymouth Prowler. More recently he customized a Ford Mustang into the muscled-up Foose Stallion production vehicle and created a 2009 Ford Flex wagon that fuses contemporary design with the feel of Detroit power in the 1960s.
Last year Detroit hotel developers asked Foose for design ideas for the $275 million MotorCity Casino hotel project. His suggestion: Restore Detroit's century-old Wonder Bread bakery instead of replacing it with a new hotel. And light the casino's interior with enough bold neon to evoke a street full of hot rod taillights.
