Subaru of America Inc.s next-generation 2008 Impreza WRX STI sits on a new, stiffer platform with updated body styling and is available only as a five-door.
The new Impreza was unveiled today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The original version gave rise to the recent crop of sport-tuned sedans when it went on sale in the United States in 2004.
The rally-inspired STIs 2.5-liter turbocharged and intercooled Boxer engine gets a 12-hp bump from the previous model. The 2008 STIs engine produces up to 305 hp at 6,000 rpm and 290 pounds-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm.
The STIs all-wheel-drive system has three automatic performance settings and six manual differential-locking settings.
Other notable features on the 2008 Subaru WRX STI include a new double-wishbone rear suspension, Brembo performance brakes with slightly larger rotors and an in-dash six-disc CD changer with 10-speaker sound system.
