It's time for another round of Who's Hot and Who's Not, an occasional assessment of car and light-truck sales that pleases a few automakers and angers several others.
It's based on 10-month sales and singles out the brands that have exceeded their 2006 sales and those that have fallen on hard times. The analysis also looks at brand-new nameplates to see whether they are living up to manufacturers' expectations.
The Automotive News sales chart lists 45 brands of cars and trucks. Sales totals are those reported by manufacturers and/or importers each month. Some of the tiny-volume, ultrahigh-priced makes do not disclose their sales; their numbers are estimated.
For January-October, 26 of the 45 makes exceeded their 2006 sales. They are in the Who's Hot group, even though some topped last year by only a few units. The other 19 brands posted declines for the 10-month period. They're in the Who's Not class.
