Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche says that next-generation Mercedes-Benz M-class crossovers may not share a platform with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but there will be a "significant" sharing of component modules. "This is still intact," he said at the Tokyo auto show. "On the Mercedes side, we have no intention of wasting money. Where we can have cost reductions without sacrificing the performance and quality, we are very willing to do that together with Chrysler."
In other words, Zetsche said, "Cooperation in this area goes ahead without change."
The next-generation M class is expected after 2010; the Grand Cherokee, for the 2010 model year.
