Ed Lundy was a bean counter who understood that product is the lifeblood of an auto company. Would that there were hundreds more like him, yesterday and today. It's just one of the reasons we will miss the Ford Whiz Kid and longtime CFO who died Oct. 2 at age 92.
Lundy had an excellent sense of priorities. He never interfered in product and design decisions. An associate last week recalled a Lundy saying: "This is a product business, and we must have the best products if we're going to have success in the long run."
