DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has priced the 2008 Taurus X at $27,365, including shipping.
The Taurus X, a crossover that replaces the Freestyle, is to arrive in showrooms this summer.
Ford notified dealers about Taurus X prices and models but has made no public announcement.
In the change from the Freestyle to Taurus X, Ford has made several major upgrades. Among them:
- A new 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 263 hp, 60 more than the Freestyle's 3.0-liter.
- A new six-speed automatic transmission that replaces the continuously variable unit that is going out of production.
- A restyled front end with Ford's signature three-bar grille and a revamped interior.
Ford also has added a midrange Eddie Bauer Series trim level.
Prices for the Taurus sedan will start at $23,995, including shipping. Both vehicles will be built at Ford's Chicago plant.
