Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. plans to add $300 to the price of its brisk-selling 2007 Camry Hybrid, a model that went on sale in April. The move will boost the sticker to $26,820, including shipping.
The hybrid, which had been forecast to sell about 4,000 units a month, sold 4,922 in August. All models sold to date have been imported from Japan, but Toyota plans to begin U.S. production of the car Oct. 12.
The price increase affects models built on or after Nov. 1.
Toyota also will introduce a Toyota Racing Development Special Edition for the four-wheel-drive version of its FJ Cruiser SUV. The package offers off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, performance exhaust components and rock rails. The package adds $7,265 to manual-transmission models and $7,250 to models with automatic transmission.
