REMSCHEID, Germany -- Edscha AG, a supplier of hinges and convertible roofs, has opened a subsidiary in China.
Edscha Automotive Technology is based in Shanghai. It will be the company's first fully foreign-owned venture.
The subsidiary will be the supplier's new headquarters in Asia. Edscha Automotive Technology will manage the company's 600 employees at four other production plants in China -- in Shanghai, Hainan, Taiwan and Anhui province -- as well as offices in Japan and Korea.
Edscha hopes to double its market share in the region in the next four years in response to rapidly rising demand.
The company already has a joint venture with Chinese automaker Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.
Edscha, of Remscheid, ranks No. 97 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with worldwide original-equipment automotive parts sales of $1.12 billion in 2005.
