It can be tough to figure out what's really going on when a company like Visteon Corp. is in play.
Oh, sure, media reports out of Europe suggest that French supplier Valeo is in hot pursuit, and that could make sense. It would be like a game of cutthroat pinochle where you pick up more cards than you need, knowing you'll discard some.
Meanwhile, shareholders, Wall Street analysts and investment bankers are all trying to handicap what now looks like an almost certain sale to someone.
But I want the real skinny. So I did what the world's smartest buyers and sellers do: I looked on eBay.
Just type in "Visteon" and voila!
Oh, boy, a list of items. Let's see the first item is a front wing from Visteon Patrick Racing that was used -- and damaged -- by driver P.J. Jones in an Indy race. And it's autographed. Current bid: $227.50.
Sounds like a bargain, but not what I was looking for.
So let's just scan the list.
There's a remanufactured Visteon air-conditioning compressor; several decals and models of the No. 91 Bill Elliott NASCAR Visteon Dodge; Visteon audio systems, Visteon video systems, Visteon radiators.
On and on the list goes, but oddly enough, there's no listing for Visteon Corp.
