"It happened at a National Automobile Dealers Association convention some years ago. The head of Cadillac's dealer franchising operation was chatting with a reporter when a loud, rumpled and not-too-sober partygoer butted in.
"The intruder expounded -- incorrectly -- on the auto business for several minutes. Then, spotting another victim, he abruptly walked off.
"Said the Cadillac exec: 'You think you've got troubles? That guy wants me to give him a franchise.' "
