To the Editor:
I read the article comparing public and private dealerships in the July 17 issue ("Study: Public dealers perform better").
There are many important points that were not mentioned.
First, public groups own only the creme de la creme franchises that they probably purchased for four to six times the earnings. We need to evaluate comparable franchises.
Second, you need to compare franchises in the same regions so that the demographics are taken into consideration.
Last, remember, whether it is public or private, the success of the dealership is directly attributed to the competency of the general manager.
