DETROIT -- Mazda is expanding the MX-5 Miata lineup for the 2007 model year with the addition of a power-operated hard top.
The hard top-equipped MX-5 Miata, which is outfitted in the Sport trim level, has a base sticker price of $24,945 including shipping, Mazda North American Operations said today. That compares with a base price of $23,495 for a 2006 MX-5 Miata in Sport trim with the standard soft top.
The hard top MX-5 Miata will reach Mazda's U.S. dealerships in late September, the automaker said.
The hard top adds 77 pounds to the MX-5 Miata's curb weight and will complete the open or closing cycle in 12 seconds, Mazda said.
Through July, Mazda sold 11,107 MX-5 Miatas in the United States this year, up 186.7 percent from 3,874 sales during the same period last year.
