DETROIT -- The Chrysler group has extended its Employee Pricing Plus discount program through Aug. 31. The program was set to expire Monday, July 31.
Under the program, any customer can get the same price on almost any 2006 vehicle that Chrysler employees pay. Consumers also have a choice of 0 percent financing for 36 months or rebates that vary from model to model.
Chrysler rolled out the program at the beginning of July to help unload high inventory levels in preparation for a flood of new models in the fall. The program was accompanied by an ad campaign featuring DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche.
Chrysler had hoped other manufacturers would join the employee purchasing fray to build summer sales momentum. So far, no other manufacturer has followed suit. Despite the program, Chrysler still has the industry's highest inventory levels. The automaker reports its July sales today.
