Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. is pruning the Matrix wagon lineup for the 2007 model year by dropping the XRS trim level and all-wheel-drive powertrain. Toyota also is not raising prices for the remainder of the Matrix lineup.
The base Matrix with a manual transmission has a sticker price of $15,840, including $580 shipping, for the 2007 model. The Matrix XR, with a manual transmission, has a sticker price of $17,320 including shipping.
Toyota's two independent distributors, Gulf States Toyota Inc. and Southeast Toyota Distributors LLC, set their own shipping charges for vehicles they sell.
The Matrix is being carried over for the 2007 model year with no major changes, Toyota said.
Also, Toyota is adding an M-Theory trim package for the Matrix. The package, which has a sticker price of $1,500, includes a sport suspension, 17-inch wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, body-color rear spoiler and chrome exhaust tip.
M-Theory production will be limited to 2,500 units, Toyota said. The M-Theory package can be added only to the XR trim level Matrix.
Through the first six months of this year, Matrix sales in the United States totaled 65,121 units, up 27.7 percent from the same period last year.
