U.S. deliveries of recreational and conversion vehicles had their strongest showing this year, as shipments rose 23.5 percent in May.
For the month, 42,600 RVs and conversion vehicles were delivered, up from 34,500 in May 2005. The increase brings year-to-date deliveries to 201,500, up 12.3 percent from the same period last year.
Deliveries of towable RVs, the biggest portion of the market, climbed 30.0 percent in May to 33,800 vehicles. For the first five months, deliveries were up 20.5 percent compared with 2005, to 163,100 units.
Among towable RVs, travel trailers posted a 39.9 percent increase to 20,700 vehicles in May.
For the year, travel-trailer deliveries were up 30.1 percent to 100,800 vehicles vs. the first five months of 2005.
Motor home shipments slid 3.6 percent to 5,300 units.
Deliveries of conversion vehicles rose for the first time this year -- a 16.7 percent rise to 3,500 in May.
